Old Syllabus 2013-2023 Trumpet Grade 8 (ABRSM)
This page is for the old ABRSM syllabus which is valid from 2017 to December 2023. The syllabus new is valid from January 2023 and there is a 1 year overlap period. The scales have also been updated and are different to the old syllabus. You are not allowed to mix the old syllabus with the new syllabus and this includes the scales.
For the grade 7 trumpet exam you have to:
-Play 3 pieces with the music. One piece from list A and B (accompanied) and one piece from list C (unaccompanied)
Marked out of 30 each.
-Scales and arpeggios from memory. Marked out of 21. Free trumpet grade 1 scale sheet below.
-Sight reading test. Marked out of 21.
-Aural test. Marked out of 18.
The exam is marked out of 150, Pass 100, Merit 120, Distinction 130.
Trumpet Grade 8 (ABRSM) Books
The Neruda Trumpet Concerto is an excellent choice for grade 8 List A.
You can play either the 1st or 3rd movements.
Contemporary music
for trumpet contains many excellent recital pieces which includes Bernstein's
Red, White and Blues for grade 8 list B
20 Dances for Trumpet by Allen Vizzutti. Contains popular Studies for List C grades 6,7 and 8. A must have book!
More Trumpet Grade 8 (ABRSM) Books
The Haydn Trumpet Concerto is one of the most famous classical pieces written for trumpet. You can play the 2nd movement for Grade 6 List A. The 1st and 3rd movements are on the Grade 8 syllabus.
The Hubeau Sonata is an excellent recital piece and the 2nd mov. "Intermede" is on List B for Grade 7.
Also contains List B pieces for grades 6 and 8.
